After a long time of procrastination, a happy customer contact me and asked me to make a Salmon fish model for her father. She wanted it to be half model so it could be hanged on a wall. Long story short - this is the model I've made for her.

Someone have noticed to me that it was not clear that it was a half body model of a fish and the back side (not visible on the preview), I've decided to add a second template of a full body fish. You'll receive both files after the purchase so you could decide which one you would like to use.

★ Dimensions

The models is:

70 x 9.3 x 22.6 cm

which equals

27.6 x 3.7 x 8.9"

There are 25 pieces all together laid out on 5 sheets of Letter or A4 paper. The whole model could be easily scaled up or down. Also, if you want a whole fish, just let me know and I'll send you the mirrored version of the model that you could add to this one and have a complete body.

You could print them out of 120 - 130 gsm cardstock or to make it nice and sturdy or in other words, something that is around one and half times heavier than a regular printer paper.

★ Quick Tips:

- If you want the fold lines and the edge ID's to end up inside of the model and not be visible, just switch the directions of valley and mountain folds (opposite of what is written in the manual).

- Always pre-score the fold lines. That makes them easier to fold and the creases are better looking. Generally they improve a lot the final look of the model.

- If you are using glue - it is better to use a slow setting one. That way you would have enough time to adjust the pieces. It is a good idea to glue one tab at a time. I use a toothpick to spread the glue on the tap.

These days I've started to use think double sided tape and I could say the results are much better and it is a lot easier to work with it than glue.

- Be patient. It usually takes longer than you've expected but seeing the finished model is very fulfilling.

It is up to you. The way the instructions are written the fold lines and edge IDs would be on the outside and visible. If you want them to end up inside just switch the directions of valley and mountain folds. All the "valley" folds become "mountain" and vise verse. That way you have to pot the glue on the upper side of the flaps too.

Nothing else needs to be changed.

This was a really fun papercraft. I had been looking for papercraft "taxidermy" and I loved the idea of having a fish... The instructions are easy to follow (it only took me an hour and a half) and it goes together really nicely. It was larger than I expected (I'm not sure why I expected smaller - especially since the dimensions are listed in the instructions! oops) but I tried a second one by printing two pattern pages on one page and the size came to about 17". Wish I had a reason to make more fish... but gonna go back and buy more patterns from Poligonia :)
